Daily Encouragement – 6/29

June 29

In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:6

This is another simple fact—a piece of Godly advice—which when followed, will lead us in the right direction. God has laid out a path for us, and if we live our lives knowing He has us in the palm of His hand, we will not veer from the course He has set for us. I am quick to point out, I have not only veered from the path on many occasions, I have walked off sheer cliffs. I would also point out, I suffered the painful consequences of the fall. I’m Your Huckleberry ~ 6-28-11

So how’d my day go? Well, talking to the dog is frustrating. She can’t talk back, and therefore, I’m never really sure if she’s happy with the way I’m doing things. I can usually figure out what she likes to eat, because some things she will devour without coming up for air, and other things she’ll turn her nose up at, and give me a look; a look that if she could talk, would probably say, “Dude! You suck!” Read the rest of this entry »

Are All Single People Good looking?

It appears that is the case! I have several Internet accounts, and many times when I sign onto them, there is an ad for a singles service; there are a lot of ads for those services on TV, too. Read the rest of this entry »

Blue On Blue

My best friend, Barry, was a good-looking, popular guy. He was funny, and all the girls dug him—for brief periods of time. What I’m saying is Barry would have no trouble at all getting a girl to “like” him when we were in the seventh and eighth grades, but keeping his true love for more than a few weeks–for reasons I never knew–was not going to happen. Oh, The Humanity!

In case you’re wondering what that means, it’s a line from the onsite live reporting by Herbert Morrison when the Hindenberg disaster occurred. The quote has since been widely used in a satirical manner to indicate faux horror at a happening or circumstance; which, is how I just used it. The horror I am about to discuss with you is the much feared, albeit much looked forward to, eighth grade dance. It was without a doubt one of those events every young boy anticipated with a gut-twisting eager dread. Read the rest of this entry »

Daily Encouragement – 6/28

June 28

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

This is so much easier said than done. If we could master this one premise—trusting in God, rather than trying to figure things out on our own—I think we would more often find ourselves in the midst of God’s peace. Sadly, we are taught by the world that we control our own destiny, and it is what we do that will determine what success, or failure, we will experience. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m Your Huckleberry ~ 6-27-11

Had an awesome day today; did lots of writing, so that always makes for a good day. When I’m writing, I feel like I’m doing what I was meant to do; like I’m where I’m supposed to be. Until I began to write—especially since I began writing full time—I never felt that way about what I was doing. I actually felt lost sometimes. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s More Than Just Fences

A few hours ago, I repeated a post iIve put on this blog twice previously called, Fences-Another Dog Tail. This is a follow up on that post and what it has to say about the fences we build around not only our property but, our lives. The thing is, it seems to me, it’s more than just fences. Fences – Another dog tail

I’ve posted this before, but I was reflecting on the design of the houses in our neighborhood recently, and felt I should post it again then follow it with some added thoughts later this afternoon. This story is told from a dog’s perspective, and it’s funny in places, but addresses a more serious subject, as well. Throughout the story, the dog wonders why we (us humans) have put up fences; fences not only around our yards, but around our lives… Read the rest of this entry »

Yeah, But It’s A Dry Heat!

Okay, Okay, I get it! But what’s the point? Why is it when someone—myself, for instance—who has lived in the desert southwest, mentions how much higher the temperature is there compared to say College Station, Texas, the answer is always the same; “Yeah, but it’s a dry heat.” Read the rest of this entry »
