Daily Encouragement ~ 3/26

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Matthew 15:8-9

The Pharisees were constantly pestering Jesus about the “law”, and if Jesus or His disciples did anything the Pharisees thought to be against God’s teachings, they were quick to point it out. Read the rest of this entry »

Daily Encouragement ~ 3/25

But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? Matthew 14:30-31

At first, Peter had faith and he stepped out on the water, but then the wind and waves frightened him, and his fear overcame his faith. Read the rest of this entry »

Daily Encouragement ~ 3/24

And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. Matthew 14:26-27

I think one of the important aspects of this verse is the fact the disciples did not know it was Jesus coming toward them. Read the rest of this entry »

So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 13:49-50

Not all people believe in God, and many will not be saved. Read the rest of this entry »

Daily Encouragement ~ 3/22

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. Matthew 13:34

Again, this verse may cause some to turn away from God, or at the least, not want to give their lives totally to Him. It need not be so! Read the rest of this entry »

Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. Matthew 13:30

Many times we wonder why God allows bad people to flourish and succeed, while some who are good and are trying to obey God’s commands are allowed to suffer. Read the rest of this entry »

A Promise Comes

I’ve been looking for this poem for months, and finally found it, along with a handful of others, in a folder stuck back in an old filing cabinet. The folder was titled “Poems 2006”, so I assume all within it was written that year. Found a story and the first three chapters of a novel in the folder, too. Now I’m going to have to dig out my old manuscripts and see if I finished the novel. I think I did, but, who knows! Read the rest of this entry »

Daily Encouragement ~ 3/20

But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Matthew 13:23

With regard to this parable, I often liken myself to a field that was once strewn with rocks. Read the rest of this entry »

For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother. Matthew 12:50

I think God is talking to me lately about things that scare people away from Him. He wants me to tell you not to be afraid. Read the rest of this entry »
