Always?
That’s a Really Long Time!
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:20
The second half of this verse is one of my most favorite quotes, and going with select words again, “always” has to be the one that jumps out at me. Not part of the time, or when we need Him, but always! Forever!
There are many things related to God I have a difficult time comprehending. That doesn’t surprise me, because, after all, He’s God, and I’m just an ordinary man. “Forever” is one of those things; heaven is another. Combine the two, and you have something truly hard to envision.
For one thing, most of us can only relate to the life we’re now living, and even at its best, we wouldn’t want to keep doing it forever. Well, maybe if we could be twenty and have everything just the way we like it. But even then, if you really think about it, wouldn’t we get tired of it after a while? Especially if we knew we were going to be the same, and keep doing the same thing, forever.
I don’t think God would promise us life forever in heaven if it wasn’t absolutely wonderful beyond our wildest imagination. And, I can’t imagine what it will be like, but I intend to find out!
