Fragile Cloth

I don’t know if this quite fits the theme Charles is looking for over at dVerse Pots Pub for the “What’s the Buzz” feature, but it seems so. In any case, I hope you enjoy it; it’s one of my older ones.

Fragile Cloth

I stare at the tattered curtain

A fragile cloth worn thin

Too many days of wear and tear

Hurts and pains are sifting in

Turn now, go another way

Repent and sin not again

Failure calls out, come to me

I hold tight to the will to win

Slipping, I cry out, cloth tears

Deep depression coddles me close

I linger, allow it to hold me

All while hating the evil host

In its arms pain overwhelms me

I struggle and try to pull free

Holds me tight, whispers, give in

Says there is nothing out there for me

Cries of anguish seem not mine

Yet my eyes the one that rain

Tearing loose I run to light

Knowing here I cannot remain

Cloth, behind me, thinner still

Gaping hole with edges tattered

From the chasm, booming laughter

My dreams around me, shattered

On and on the battle rages

I never lose… yet never win

The cloth that keeps me sane

Torn too often… worn too thin

WOW!! This is absolutely amazing, Charlie!! The despair, the hurt are just overwhelming.

  2. Powerful last image and last sentiment to match!! Well written, Charles!

  3. Life can and does do this to us at times, doesn’t it. Brings us to our knees. It’s ‘a person’ fractured so, (I think) it fits in with the prompt just fine :)

  4. I got depressed reading this ~ Smiles ~ Nice capture of despair and shattered dreams ~

Wow, Charles, this is very powerful… painful, real, powerful in its honest facing of that power for evil and power of forgiveness. Against that backdrop, the poem draws not to a close but to remind how continual that battle is. Excellent for its self-awareness and the ability to put such things into words, not to mention poetry.

  7. Powerful Charles. Good stuff

This is not you, Is it? At least I hope not.
A bit of a tearjerker, unlike your usual cheery self.
That top curtain is very reminiscent of what’s his name…oh dear, I’ll have to go ask somebody..hang on…Andrew Wyeth.

    • Actually, it is, Aprille; but many years ago. It wasn’t even me at the time I wrote the piece, but a memory from time(s) before that. I think most of us have gone through times when we feel close to the tattered edge.
      Thank you!

  10. Deep sadness explored here

Powerful, strong write here. It sears in its despair and lingers. The words and graphics are perfect matches.
