Sometimes, We Just Need a Friend
I’ve got one!
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4
I used to think this verse was talking about anyone that was sad about something, but mostly, I associated mourning with death, and I just thought Jesus was talking about comfort for those people suffering the loss of a loved one. I think maybe it’s more than that. Though Jesus may be talking about comforting those who mourn for a lost loved one, He is also talking about those among us who are mourning over death of another kind—death of our spirit.
We are all sinners, and if you’re like me, you tend to condemn yourself for your sins. We tend to grieve and mourn over our shortcomings, even when we know Jesus has taken them upon Himself. The good news is, Jesus is here, and He came to comfort us.
When you’re feeling down—for any reason—know that He is right there beside you. He’s like that friend who sits at your side, knowing your pain, and knowing, too, the best thing they can do is just be there. Jesus, like that friend, is at your side. The difference is, you can give your cares to Jesus, and He will take them all away.

That was certainly a great way to look at it. We can ‘mourn’ for other reasons than death and our Lord is there for us. I know that for me, He has been my best friend for decades.
I guess I’m telling my age.

I’m glad you enjoyed this one, Faye!

“What a friend we have in Jesus…”
Easier sung than done, I admit, but I do sing it when I need the reminder.
Excellent post.
