Love Without Trust?
Is that even possible?
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
The key element in love is trust. We cannot truly, fully and unconditionally love someone if we don’t trust them. True love is an abandonment of self; a dedication of your life to the happiness of another. If you don’t trust someone, can you love them unconditionally? Can you give completely and totally of yourself, expecting nothing in return, if there is a fear within you the other person might not reciprocate?
Some might argue we must love others without expecting anything, including the return of love. I agree with that concept, but when it comes to love between you and God and the love between you and your spouse, I believe there must be trust. When we trust God—trust seems to me to be the same as faith—then there is joy and peace in our heart. And most of all there is hope, an eternal hope that with God all things are possible, for indeed, God is the God of hope.
Put your trust in God and love Him unconditionally, and I believe you will soon see the love and trust you share with Him spilling over into the relationships you have with your spouse, your family and others. In fact, I guarantee it!
