“Brothers, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.” Philippians 3:13
The theme for this year’s daily encouragements is “Are We There Yet”, to which the answer for most of is a resounding, “No!” I contend we should not be discouraged by that, but rather we should be encouraged by the fact that even though we’re not there, we know where we’re going. The key is to stay focused on our destination, and the way to do that is to keep our eyes on God.
My philosophy is that each time I make a mistake I can stop and start over. It’s kind of like a baseball player hitting the ball. He knows he’s not going to hit every pitch that’s thrown to him, but that’s still his goal, and he’s not going to stop trying just because he misses some of them.
The number one rule for hitting a baseball is to keep your eye on it, and the same principle applies to godly living. If the hitter watches the ball, he’s more likely to hit it and hit it well. If we keep our eyes on God, we are more likely to live a life that’s pleasing to Him.
This year let’s resolve to keep our eyes on God. We might not be perfect, but I’m betting our average gets better.
