Thirsty?
How ‘bout a drink of joy!
With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. Isaiah 12:3
Our physical bodies can survive for many days without food, but extended periods of time without water can be harmful and eventually fatal. Obviously, extended periods of time without food can be harmful and fatal as well, but those who study such things state that the lack of water can do more harm faster than the lack of food.
The comparison I see between these things and God are that when we draw on God—the living water—we draw on His life-giving power. Without God’s life-giving power—His love—we could not experience the complete and full life only He can give us.
But we must also eat to survive, and that is true with God as well. If we simply draw from His well of salvation, then go about our merry way without another thought, we will slowly wither and become weak. We need food, and that food is God’s word—the Bible. I have noticed that since I began writing these encouragements, I take in more of God’s nourishment—His word—and as a result, my love and faith grow stronger.
I grow stronger with each passing day, as I joyfully drink from the wells of salvation.
