Shoot For the Moon! ~ February 9

Shoot For the Moon!

If you miss, you’ll land pretty high anyway!

… Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. 2 Corinthians 13:11

“Shoot for the moon, if you miss, you’ll land pretty high anyway.” Aiming for perfection fits that saying quite well. I don’t know of anyone who is perfect in any way, shape, or form. Granted, there are some who think they are perfect, but, enough said.

The key words in this verse are “Aim for”. I don’t know of any place in the Bible where it tells us we must be perfect. It’s something we are encouraged to try for, but I think I can safely say God doesn’t expect us to ever achieve it; at least not while we occupy these earthly bodies.

But just because something isn’t achievable, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t want to attempt to do it. If this were the case, I don’t know if we would ever achieve anything. I’ve always been inspired by the challenge, and if I couldn’t do something well, I practiced until I could do it better (except snow skiing). Even so, I’ve never attained perfection at anything.

As pertains to godly things, the most important thing is focusing on God. I truly believe that if we can achieve perfection, or get close to perfection, at this one thing—loving God with all our heart, soul, and mind—we will have taken the proverbial “one giant leap for mankind.”

What galls me is when some folks use the Lord’s name as their crutch, their fallback when they fail. I can’t count how many times I’ve heard things along the lines of “Well Christ wasn’t perfect – what do you expect from me?” As though He has given them carte blanche to fail, which is so far from the truth.

    • I hear ya! He ain’t no crutch or excuse for failure, He’s a reason for doing good! In more ways than one!
Thanks again, Raivenne! I appreciate you!
