Stop Living Life!
And start experiencing it!
Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Not so long ago, I scoffed at this verse. How can we be joyful when the world is crashing down around us? If we spend all our time praying, how can we live our lives? We’re expected to give thanks for bad stuff? I didn’t get it.
I’ve come to realize this is God’s will for us, and it is possible. If our focus is on Him, and we have unwavering faith in Him, we will be joyful, knowing there is nothing He will not do for us. He will be with us and see us through any and all circumstances.
And if we talk to God constantly—pray continually—throughout the day, when things start to go wrong—and you know they often do—we’ll be able to face them with the joy of knowing they are small and our God is enormous.
When God becomes our constant companion, we will not just live our lives; we will experience life and joy at all times. Sure, we’ll have bad times along the way, and we’ll lose our joy, forget to pray and give thanks, but there will come a time when we will realize the fullness and enormity of God’s love.
No, we’re not there yet, but we’re going the right direction and getting closer all the time.
