Daily Encouragement ~ 8/14

August 14

Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. Colossians 2:16

I used to wonder what good it did to read the Old Testament. It seemed to me that with the new covenant in place after Jesus died then rose again, the Old Testament was of little use. I have since determined it is very useful in that it tells the history of God’s people who foretold the coming of Christ, and it is also filled with many principles which are good to live by.

However, all the Old Testament rules and regulations put in place by men in their attempt to control those who were trying to follow God became void when Jesus died on the cross. Man had taken the guidelines God gave them and messed them up so bad they couldn’t be salvaged. Some continue to do so today.

I am of the opinion no one is qualified to judge me for any reason, as long as I love God and do my best to live my life in a way that is pleasing to Him. I also believe if I do the one thing—love God with all my heart—He will cause me to live according to His statutes.

When you get right down to it, it seems to me there is only one rule—one commandment—and it is to love God. Yes, I will remember the Sabbath and keep it holy, but I will do it every day; not just on Sunday.
