So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. John 16:22
See! I told you no one can take away your joy! Jesus said so in this verse! Ha! I love it when a plan comes together!
When Jesus walked out of the tomb, our lives were changed. By walking out of the tomb, He was saying to the world, “I am the way, the life and the truth. Follow me, and your joy will be complete.”
I can imagine Jesus pointing to the sky and thinking, “All for the Father!” Maybe He did the world’s first victory dance as He celebrated the most famous victory of all. (Probably not, but we should!)
We should dance and point to the sky and wear a smile that can’t be wiped off our face. Our joy is complete. Jesus has conquered death and sin. We are free! We have won. We should be full of joy that cannot be taken from us.
So why aren’t you smiling? Why aren’t you standing up right now, shaking your booty and raising a we’re-number-one finger to the sky?
Oh. I see. You gave away your joy.
Here’s the thing, folks. I’ll say it nice and slow: You-can’t-give-it-away-either.
Nope. You might set it to the side while you moan and whine about something or somebody that wants to take it from you, but it is yours. It will always be yours. It’s like that favorite old T-shirt; you can wear it forever, and you will fight anyone who tries to take it from you. Your joy is the same. You always have it; you just have to decide you’re going to wear it.
Jeesh! That’s simpler than I thought.
