If’n the Trigger Gits Pulled

It’s that time of year in Texas when some fairly high-powered thunderstorms can roll in (Dallas getting hammered as this goes to post). Most times we have plenty of warning, but truth is, there’s not much you can do except stay inside away from windows and hope the worst of it doesn’t hit your house. Well… actually, I hope it doesn’t hit anyone’s house. Sherry and I were talking about it at lunch, and I made a funny comment about the situation, so I figured I’d share it with all you kind folks. Can anyone pick out what it was I said that inspired me to write this silly little poem?

Ain’t Skeert!

There’s a storm brewin’

One a them kind that makes

The weather-dude nervous

He says it could be a doozy

A croaker choker

If’n the trigger gits pulled

In plain speak

The trigger means

The cold air hits the warm air

For some reason

He thinks the cold air

Might just hang up out west

But! If’n the trigger gits pulled

Better run for cover boys

And girls

‘Cause there will be

Illuminations

Follered by thunderations

Rain by the bucket-load

Fee-rocious winds, and hail

Big as chicken eggs

But all I can tell y’all is

This ol’boy

Ain’t skeert

ha nice…would love to hear you read this..we had a thunderstorm today over here…first one this spring…we have quite some of them..not really dangerous ones though…

    • I might have to look into doing some reading posts. I have a good delivery and voice, but just haven’t done it due to being old fashioned. I usually git with the program eventually, but not before some considerable foot-draggin. More likely should say heels dug in, kickin, and hollerin. This would be a fun one to do.
Thanks for the great comment, Claudia!

As fr the storms, we don’t normally get the real bad ones here either. They’re well north of us right now, but could drop down here late this afternoon.
Thanks for the great comment, Claudia!

  4. Charles–I’ve BEEN in Texas during one of these storms. You had me smiling from ear to ear.

  5. pecos bill? smiles….hope you are not being hit too bad…saw where some pretty nasty tornadoes were bearing down on dallas….stay safe….

    • Cisco Keed! Close though!
We’re okay here. Everything is north of us at the moment. Unusual for Dallas, but they get the nasties every now and then.
Thanks for the visit and comment, Brian!

  6. OMgoodness Charles, watching CNN and seeing the damage from the tornados close to Dallas and Fort Worth. I hope you’re not anywhere in their path because I see even more are on the way. Stay safe.

    • We’re okay for now. No worries. Besides; I ain’t skeert!
Thanks for the visit and comment (and concern!).

I must admit I am ‘skeert.’ I don’t live in TX and when we get tornado warnings I head for the basement and pray! So far this year none…but I have seen some horrendous damage done to other areas.

    • They can be frightening, Mary, but I literally figure there is nothing I can do but the best I can do at the moment, and pray God will protect my loved ones.
Thanks for the visit and comment!

    Too funny, Charles. 🙂

You leave me wondering about this year’s bluebonnets. Do you have any yet? I miss them so.

    Stay safe, y’all!

    • LOTS of bluebonnets this year, Shawna! And, the storm is on the way here. Should be some illuminations and thunderations real soon. Hopefully no chicken egg sized hail or bad winds!
Thanks for the visit, comment, and concern!

it’s interesting to see how many people are scared of storms, even though they are in a safe place and doing safe things

  10. We had some big ‘ol thunderstorms here over the weekend. They were low, loud and long. I wasn’t skeert neither. They make me grin.

  11. Well, very charming! And convincing! But I’m glad to be out of the rain! K.

    • It’s bearing down on us now. Not as strong as what hit Dallas, and shouldn’t last long.
Thank you for the nice comment!

I picked out illuminations and thunderations right off the bat, Charles, just sounds like something you’d say. My advice is, never get skeert lessen you has to, then run like the dickens. ;_)

    • Yes’m, that’s what I told Sherry at lunch. You win the prize!
Which is a BIG Thanks for stopping by! The comment is very much appreciated, too!
