Ah, The Aroma!

Well! I Nevah! It seems a coup of sorts is afoot at dVerse Poets Pub this afternoon. Claudia has invited—big city dwellers only, it appears—to write something Poetic: Subway. Now, I ask you, what’s a good ol’ boy from Texas know about subways? Well, by gosh, we might just surprise you!

Ah, The Aroma!

For me, it all begins

When you open the door

The aroma assaults you

And the excited looks

Of all the other people

Let you know

This will be an experience

A ride, some would say

Like none other

You stroll along, watching

Making sure it’s all

Just the way you like it

And when you know it is

You give the guy

A token of your appreciation

In the way of

Five dollars

As advertised

Then grab a seat

And enjoy

A delicious

Foot long

Subway sandwich

Mmmm mmmm mm!

    • Thanks, Mike! I appreciate the read and comment very much!

      • you are prolific these days my friend

      • I’m always prolific, Mike. When I started the blog a little over a year ago, I was posting way to much every day. I backed way off, and now I’m trying to only post when there’s a good prompt. My readership and subscribers has really taken off since I dropped the number of post down to a level where folks can enjoy them, while not being bombarded with emails from Marbles in my Pocket. I certainly appreciate you and your comments!

      • keep it up man! I am leaning towards 2 posts a day. One rather newsy or informative like this morning and one going for humor. We will see how it evolves,

That’s where my mind was going with this prompt too. 🙂

    • Mine didn’t even hesitate! It was five dollar foot long from the git go!
Thanks for the great comment, Shawna!

Ha, I was totally going to go this direction but opted to be more traditional once I started writing. Glad I didn’t now, as you pretty much said what I wanted to say and much more. fantastic piece thanks.

    • I never been on a subway, but been in a Subway shop many times. It was a no-brainer, hold the mayo, all the way for me!
Thanks for the visit and comment!

Oh how I love this! You caught me completely by surprise with this one.

    • I can’t believe I caught so many with this! I had no idea it was that tricky!
Thanks for the visit and comment! I’m glad you enjoyed it!

  16. You “scooped me” ! I’m happy it was you ! You definitely should have a big commission from Subway to use this on a poster or something awesome…
Now, will get my brain from “aura” to “subway”☺.
    Peace,
    Siggi in Downeast Maine

  17. Oh yum… excellent, now I’m hungry!!!

I’ve never been on a subway before you just gave me a ride on one 🙂 Thanks for the smile Charlie!! blessings, Terri

    • Well, this wasn’t a REAL subway. Unless they have mustard on them. Which, now that I think about it, they probably do.
      Thanks, Terri!

We have a great one in Port A (where are you anyway?) –love all those different kinds of breads, yum. But we have a BRAND NEW Whataburger right around the corner and now I know you know that’s all kind of good too!

    • Are you kidding me?? My middle name is Whataburger-with-cheese-no tomatoes-coke-to-drink! I LOVE Whataburger! On days Sherry doesn’t come home for lunch, I am there!
We’re in College Station. Have friends who go to Port A a lot. You probably know one of them; the crazy little blonde gal who won’t give up the karaoke mic after she gets hold of it.
Thanks for the fun comment! Yum!

Aha, there are those subways too, and I gotta admit they do take me on a ride of sorts, especially when I’m hankering to quell those hunger pangs in my growing gut.

    • Yep. I don’t know about those y’all are writing about, but I sure know about these kind!
Thanks for the visit and comment, Charles!

Thanks, Raivenne. I love the comment!

  29. You took the chicken sandwich’s way out, which I almost did,
but then I realized I could write about the absence
of something as easily as its presence.
    Anyway, this was yummy!

  30. Btw, the name of your blog reminds me of a lyric from song by Suzanne Vega, “Small Blue Thing”:

    “Today I am
    A small blue thing
    Like a marble
    Or an eye

With my knees against my mouth
    I am perfectly round
    I am watching you

I am cold against your skin
    You are perfectly reflected
I am lost inside your pocket
    I am lost against
    Your fingers”

    etc. Hear it here:

    • Beautiful song, and the lyrics are awesome! I’m going to have to look it up and see who wrote the lyrics.
Thanks for sharing it with me!
