I Have a Plan!

On this Mother’s Day, 2012, I did a very selfish thing. Overhearing phone conversations, I got wind Sherry and I would be having brunch at a Houston restaurant with Sherry’s mom, son, daughter-in-law, and our two-year-old granddaughter.  I have absolutely no use for crowded restaurants, and detest the idea of waiting in line at one no matter how good their food is supposed to be.

Imagining waiting for a table for breakfast—a meal which, in my opinion, is never going to be that great at any restaurant—at mid-morning on Mother’s day in Houston, I panicked. After receiving an email, confirming the plans, but without a chosen venue, I threw in the challenge flag, and offered to cook a buffet style breakfast at son James’ house.

My offer was accepted and agreed upon by all, and yours truly was elated at having dodged the proverbial bullet; until I saw the menu. Holy Mother’s Day menu!!

There will be bacon, sausage, ham, scrambled eggs, waffles (pecan and plain), and my world-famous (at our house at least) biscuits with homemade jam.

No worries; son James has been enlisted as my assistant, and I have a plan!

All joking aside, I am honored this morning to be able to serve brunch to three wonderful ladies. Sherry, her mom, Nell, and the newest mother in our family, James’ lovely wife, Marlene, are three of the best mothers I have ever known.

Happy Mother’s Day to all three!

And, while I’m at it, happy Mother’s Day to all mothers everywhere!
