Light My Fire!
I’m fixin’ to light things up!
In him was life; and the life was the light of men. John 1:4
My understanding of this verse is: Him means Jesus; life means life lived for Him; light means knowledge of Him. Again, it seems complicated, but I believe all of God’s word is simple if we look at it from a common sense point of view. God does not want us to be confused, so why would His word be confusing?
When we love God, He gives us life. The fact is a life lived without God is like a candle never lit. We have candles in our house that are pretty to look at, but they’ve never been lit, so they are not a source of light. We have other candles we keep in strategic places so if the power goes out we can use them to see. And, we have candles we light on occasion, for the scent they give off while burning, or simply because we like the atmosphere when they are lit.
Can we compare ourselves to any of those candles? I hope not. I heard someone say recently, “In order for our light to shine, we have to be on fire.” In order to be on fire for God we have to know how much He loves us and want to return His love to Him. We can’t just sit around looking pretty, or saving our love for special—or dark—situations, we have to keep our light burning constantly.
Jesus is the match; let Him light your fire!
