It’s Over and Done! ~ August 24

It’s Over and Done!

So, why do we cling to the past?

Brothers, I don’t regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do. Forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, Philippians 3:13

It seems to be a human trait to live in the past, holding on to our failures and victories. The same can be true of holding on to neither of those, and simply repeating the mundane to avoid trouble; we do the safe things day after day, just to get by without incident.

I am finding there is more to life than past triumphs and failures, and when we put our hand in Jesus’ hand, we can step out in faith into a world of uncertainty, knowing He will direct our steps and guide us through each and every circumstance, good, bad or in between.

I talked recently about going to the garden, and walking and talking with Jesus; putting our hand in His. I have found it is only by letting go of the past that our hands can be freed and be placed in Jesus’ hands. We cannot truly focus on Him and His will for our lives when we are looking back, and clinging to the past.

Let it go. Come to the garden. Jesus waits there with open arms.

It is a hard but important lesson in understanding the difference between remembering the past where you control it so you do not repeat its mistakes and clinging to it where it controls you so that you can’t truly move forward from it. Excellent as always, Charles.

As we look into the past, we should always forgive but it is often difficult to forget. So. . .let’s embrace the past to empower the present and enrich the future. That which is not forgotten may somehow resurface in triumph.
