You Say You Got the Blues? ~ August 27

You Say You Got the Blues?

Got holes in both your shoes?

What strength do I have, that I should still hope? What prospects, that I should be patient?      Job 6:11

I’ve been there and done that! I’ve been weak and worn out, beat down, with no hope of things getting better. Yes, there have been many times when I felt I had nothing to look forward to and no prospects for the future. But somehow, even before I had a strong faith in God, I was always able to reach down, gather my strength and resolve and go forward, and things always turned around. But, when you’re down there at the bottom of the heap, and you can’t even see the first rung of the ladder… there is no feeling worse than that.

Sometimes I think back on those dreary, hopeless days and realize how much easier they would have been if I’d had the faith I have now. But when I read the story of Job I don’t feel so bad; Job had tremendous faith and love for God, and still, he struggled when tested. Even so, it’s not easy to keep smiling when it’s raining so hard you can’t see where you’re going.

Hope is the key to peace and joy. If we can always know God is the ultimate authority, and He loves us, then we will always have hope, and we can keep on smiling through the rain, and laughing at the pain.
