When Good Things Happen to Bad People

That used to bother me

Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of the wicked, for the evil man has no future hope, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out. Proverbs 24:19-20

Through the ages, and it seems even more so today, the question has always been asked; why do evil and wicked people prosper? Most of us have worked hard for what we have, and when we see someone who is obviously not a good person doing so much better than we are, it bothers us.

But I am learning not to be bothered by things such as this. I have all I need, and what someone else has—whether they deserve it or not—does not concern me. And to be honest with you, the latter part of this verse is of no comfort to me. Knowing that evil and wicked men will not spend eternity with the Lord does not cause me to feel justified. Their lamp being snuffed out is merely to say they will not know everlasting life with God. I would rather see those men and women come to believe in Jesus and be saved.

We should not fret when evil men succeed, and we should not be envious of the wicked. We should pray for their salvation, and know that no matter what they might do or accomplish, God will use them in His plan.
