I Looked Into the Muddy Water ~ March 16

I Looked Into the Muddy Water

And saw a lonely lonely man

As water reflects a face, So a man’s heart reflects the man. Proverbs 27:19

I’ve had rivers on my mind a lot lately, and so it was no surprise this morning when a stanza from the old Pat Boone song Moody River popped into my mind:

I looked into your muddy water And what did I see I saw a lonely lonely man Just lookin’ back at me

I’ve also had the word focus on my mind—for months—and I’ve become convinced if we focus on God we will find Him and He will change our lives. He’s changed mind so much in the last few years, I sometimes look at myself and say, “Who are you?”

For most of my life I stared into the muddy waters of this world, feeling alone and unloved, and the more I looked at the muddy water, the more lonely I became. Then—I can’t tell you exactly when—I turned and looked at God, and He began to change my heart and He showed me another river; His river; a river of love.

I’ve learned the river of love is God, and when I look into His clear blue waters of life, I see not a lonely man, but rather I see a man filled with hope and joy.

Focus on the good things. Turn your eyes upon Jesus. You will be amazed at what you see.
