I Just Can’t Do It! ~ March 28

I Just Can’t Do It!

Well, maybe you don’t have to

for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

If God has forgiven us, why can’t we forgive ourselves? The answer is we have been beat over the head most of our lives with the rules. We are so full of thou-shalts and thou-shalt-nots we can’t imagine how God can love us. Sometimes we even doubt our salvation, thinking we’ve blown it so many times there is surely a rule we’ve broken which got us kicked off God’s list.

And then again, maybe we think it’s just as well, because look at all the fun stuff we couldn’t do if we were “good” Christians. To quote one of the great animated philosophers of our time, “Oh bother.”

If we had to earn our way into God’s good graces and heaven, the bus would need to be mothballed. No one would be taking the ride or have a ticket to the final stop!

Jesus didn’t die on the cross so we would have to earn our salvation; He died on the cross so we could receive it by grace. All we have to do is believe in Him and focus on Him, allowing Him to live in us. When we do that He will do the rest.

Once again, it IS that simple!

  1. Simple yes, life is complicated enough, just ask Him into your life and believe. the sacrifice for us and His love is sufficient!

Great write Charlie! Simple yes ,but where I have a tendency is I don’t always let Christ have the reins, I keep snatching them back which complicates everything.

    • I know the feeling. We all do it; it’s human nature. But the more we focus on God’s love for us, the less we will take back those reins.
