A Stone’s Roll Away
So close and yet…
Behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from the sky, and came and rolled away the stone from the door, and sat on it. Matthew 28:2
What were people doing just before the stone was rolled away and Jesus emerged from the tomb? Were they going about their business-as-usual lives, getting ready for work and wondering what they would fix for dinner that evening? When they awoke, did they feel something in the air? Did they sense that the world around them had changed forever?
What will our first thoughts be when we awake this Easter morning? Will we think of eggs and chocolate bunnies, or the feast we will prepare and devour in celebration this holiday? Or will our first thoughts be of the stone, rolled away by an angel, and the empty tomb that couldn’t hold our savior.
Our first thoughts each morning should be of God, how much He loves us and the sacrifice—His only Son—He was willing to give for us. Start your days knowing He wants to go through each and every moment of them with you, and go through your days with joy and peace in your heart, knowing He is always just a stone’s roll away.
