Are You Building a Mountain? ~ April 14

Are You Building a Mountain?

Just so you can climb it?

He said to them, “Because of your unbelief. For most assuredly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. Matthew 17:20

Surely we’ve all heard the saying, making a mountain out of a molehill? It’s meaning is that we exaggerate something to cause it to seem bigger, worse, or in some way more important than it actually is. In many instances, maybe most, we tend to want to make our problems appear bigger than they are, and wear them like merit badges for everyone to see.

I hear people talking about the diseases they have, or the troubles in their lives, and it sounds like they’re trying to convince the listener that their trials and troubles are the worst ever! They build a mountain of sorrows, and say, “Look what I have to climb!”

We should not build mountains, in essence glorifying the bad things in our lives. In fact, we should make a list of all the good things in our lives, and go tell them on the mountain! Stand atop your troubles and praise God!
