You Can’t Drive a Car! ~ April 19

You Can’t Drive a Car!

Until you start the engine!

If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. 1Corinthians 13:3

We can’t do our way to godliness and heaven, and this verse demonstrates that thought very well, in that it states the only reason we should do anything—is out of love. If we want to give, it should not be so others will applaud our generosity; if we sacrifice our own comfort so another might be comfortable, we should not do so to gain approval of our peers.

We shouldn’t spend our time, our thoughts, our energy on doing; we should spend our time loving God and seeking His knowledge and wisdom. When we understand God’s love, and realize that all he requires of us is to love Him, we will be in His will, and all we are, and all we do will have His love at its core. We will be—as He created us—in His image. Only then will the things we do have meaning and consequence.

It’s all about priorities. You can’t back the car out of the driveway until you insert the key and start the engine. God’s word is the key, and His love is the engine. He has given us the key and the engine is powerful. Fire it up!
