I Left the Suds in the Bucket ~ April 20

I Left the Suds in the Bucket

And the clothes hangin’ out on the line

Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:9

The phrase, “practice what you preach,” comes flying into my mind. I do not purport to preach, but merely to discuss encourage others. Another saying jumps out at me: “Do as I say, not as I do.” I got that one down pat! But, you know what I always say; Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. Philippians 3:13.

I can’t undo my past or the wrongs I’ve done, and I can’t make the good things better than they were. Done is done. A line from a country song comes to mind just now; “I left the suds in the bucket and the clothes hanging out on the line.” By that I mean I simply walked away from a life that was soiled and stained and turned my attention to Jesus. I’m not perfect—never will be—but I am in the big machine now, getting washed and polished. I’ll probably need to go through the rinse cycle for the rest of my days on this planet, but by golly I’ll eventually be sparkling clean and ready to go to the big dance.
