No Place to Hide

I wrote this last Friday, but decided the introduction to it was a better write, so I wound up posting it (the introduction), in the form of the poem, Right or Wrong.

No Place to Hide

I see the reports almost daily

A bomb here, an explosion there

A lunatic with a gun or a knife

Just wanted to see what it was like to kill

Someone decided to “make a statement”

For “the cause”

And those they killed or maimed

Were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time

The war between good and evil rages

One side seeks to kill and destroy

The other mourns and wonders why

There is no fence; no place to hide

  1. Charles, this is very, very strong.

    powerful write, Charlie

  3. Intense…stern and clear…eye opening in it’s obvious clarity. thank you 🙂

  4. Oh yes,.. we live in a bleak and black world. But I always wonder if it’s really good against evil. Sometimes I think it’s more to follow the least evil path.

    • If you’re talking politics, you’re absolutely correct. But as for life and humanity in general, there is still good.
      Thanks, Bjorn!

I wondered if or who would broach the obvious here…you’ve done so cleanly and ignored the metaphorical options…I don’t think they’re needed and may well detract from the brutal truths in your words

    so many victims……

    • I am usually fairly blunt; don’t subscribe to theory of political correctness. If you speak truth, you need not mince words.
Thanks for the visit and comment!

so true that people who are killed or maimed are simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. They did nothing to deserve their fate. And so true that one cannot hide from crazy or crazed.

  7. would a fence do it…or have our fences created this in the first place…i dont know that we will ever create a truly safe place that is without its peril, you know…perhaps though we can find other ways…

    • The fence I reference here is not the kind that separate us, but rather those we walk, trying to stay neutral; not taking a stand for good. Too many want to be able to wade in the bad stuff, and hope the tide doesn’t come in.
      Thanks, Brian!

  8. Great write Charles…you’re right there is no place to hide from these types of people and we never know who they are that’s the scary part of it all.

Well written, straight to the heart.

Straight to the core..but, sadly no real place to hide. We can only hope for a better world.

There’s so much pain, Charles. Indeed, no where to hide. You capture the knife-edge of morality I think that most people must thumb in coming to realize what dangers await the future..

There is no place to hide, how sad is that ?

  13. Oh my. That was powerful and heart wrenching.

I wrote this 4 years ago, and things have gotten worse since then. Chaos seems to be feeding chaos. But… there is good in this world and I will continue to focus on it.
