No Pads or Helmet? ~ May 15

No Pads or Helmet?

You must think you’re mighty tough!

But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.  1Thessalonians 5:8

Temptations and trials lurk around every corner, trying to draw our attention away from God. That’s why God provides us with his protective gear; faith and love as a breastplate to protect our hearts, and the hope of salvation as a helmet to guard our minds. When we have faith, love and hope, we can face the challenges of each day, knowing God will protect us.

Would you play football without pads and helmet? Not hardly! The toughest men would not consider something so foolish! Even with all the protective gear they sometimes get hurt.

Too often, we rush into the game without faith, love and hope, then after we have been battered around by life we realize we’re trying to do it without God and the protection of His love. Our hearts become wounded, and our minds are dazed and confused. Usually, after we’ve taken a pretty good beating, we realize we’ve entered the game without His protection, and once we have donned it, things begin to turn in our favor.

God’s protective uniform is free. Wear it!

“The toughest men would not consider something so foolish! ” Ah, but some foolish men consider themselves so tough. Have you ever seen a rugby game? 😛
