I surrender all!
Oh? Really?
He said to all, “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. Luke 9:23
I remember hearing the old hymn, I Surrender All, many times when I was young. It was often used at the alter call at the end of the sermon, when people were encouraged to come forward and accept Jesus as their Savior. But how many of us can say we have surrendered all? Certainly not I, but I am working on it.
I’m not working on it in the sense that I’m doing things, but simply in that I am focusing on God, and as a result, I believe He is constantly removing my selfish nature and filling me with His selfless love. He is, in essence, causing me to surrender willingly to His love, joy, and peace.
And there’s the thing; we tend to stubbornly cling to our “freedom”, not realizing that by doing so, and not surrendering our lives totally to Christ, we bind ourselves to the lawlessness of our inherent human nature.
If we want to experience all God has to offer us, all we need do is surrender all. Let go and let God!
