If I Got What I Deserved… ~ June 2

If I Got What I Deserved…

Have mercy!

Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.1Timothy 1:14

Personally, I could add to the list of things Paul admits to in his letter to Timothy; my past ignorance definitely knew no bounds. And, I’m not out of the woods yet, but I’ve found a well-beaten path, and I’m going to follow it wherever God leads me.

Finding the path and trying to follow it didn’t happen all of a sudden. It seemed to evolve—one thing leading to another—until one day I realized God had become the focus of my life.

God is pouring His grace on me, and I believe He will pour it abundantly. I think God knows most of us could not comprehend His goodness and His love if it were doled out to us in doses too large for us to handle, so He pours it over us a little at a time, allowing our faith and love to grow at a pace we can deal with.

The definition of God’s mercy is Him giving us what we don’t deserve. He doesn’t pour out His grace on us because we are good; He pours it out on us because He is good.
