Baby Steps ~ June 16

Baby Steps

No running!

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child. Now that I have become a man, I have put away childish things. 1Corinthians 13:11

When we were very young and learning to walk, we wanted to go everywhere at once, and often we would put ourselves in harm’s way. Fortunately, there was usually someone watching over us, and they would steer us away from things that could harm us (or that we could break). The world was full of things we wanted to know more about, and we wanted to explore it all as fast as we possibly could.

We are much the same when it comes to our spiritual lives; we want to explore and learn all we can as fast as we can. But just as it was when we were toddlers, rushing about a room full of exciting things, we can run into trouble when we try to do too much. We need to go slow, taking baby steps, until we learn to navigate the spiritual world. Learning about God can be a wonderful, rewarding experience, but slow and steady is best.

As we navigate this wonderful new spiritual world, all we have to do is stay focused on God; He’s watching over us, and will guide us and protect us.
