It’s Not My Job! ~ June 18

It’s Not My Job!

But I’ll be happy to assist!

A discerning man keeps wisdom in view, but a fool’s eyes wander to the ends of the earth. Proverbs 17:24

I was asked this past summer—by one of you—what we should say when someone questions our belief or faith in God and even the very existence of God. My answer was simple: You should not try to debate such a person unless you are very sure of what your argument against every possible challenge and criticism will be. If you choose not to enter into a debate with the person, tell them, “God loves you, I love you, and what you do with that information is between you and God. It’s not my job to convince you of His existence, it’s God’s. As for me, I accept Jesus as my Savior and I believe the teachings of the Holy Bible.”

If someone is teaching from the Bible, and what we’ve learned is from the Bible, we will understand it, and God will draw us to Him as a result of it. If someone tries to convince you of something and you can’t confirm with scripture, or it just doesn’t “feel” right, stay away from it. That “gut feeling” you get when something just doesn’t seem right to you; that’s God, telling you to walk away. God is the teacher, man is but the instrument. Make sure to confirm what anyone tells you with the word of God. Be discerning.
