Well, Bless My Soul! ~ June 29

Well, Bless My Soul!

Whatever that is!

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain. Hebrews 6:19

What, exactly, is our soul?

Most definitions I can find don’t fully explain it, but in an Internet search I found one that seems to make sense: 1. nonphysical aspect of person: the complex of human attributes that manifests as consciousness, thought, feeling, and will, regarded as distinct from the physical body.

Our hope of spending eternity with God is an anchor for our love of God. For if we disregard its physical aspects, love is without a doubt a complexity of our human attributes manifested by our thoughts, feelings and will. You might even say love is our soul, or our soul is love.

God is love, He is in us, and we are one with Him. Could it be that God is our soul? Our soul—securely anchored by hope—is therefore secure and has entered the inner sanctuary—the very essence of God—behind the curtain.

And lest anyone should think I compare myself with or consider myself to be equal to, or the essence of, God, let me remind you: Brothers, I do not consider myself having taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. Philippians 3:13
