Pass the Salt, Please
My love is a bit bland
Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. Colossians 4:6
Everyone is different, and what might work with one, won’t work with another. It’s like salt on food; the purpose of salt is to make your food taste better, and different foods require more or less salt. In my case, I don’t like bland tasting food, so I add salt to perk it up a bit. Jalapenos work well, too! On the other hand, too much salt or jalapenos can ruin a good meal.
The same is true when we speak to someone about Jesus. Even in our conversations with other believers, we should season our conversation according to their needs. But take note, I said “season”, not change the recipe. Our message must remain the same, but our delivery—seasoning—can be altered to better communicate with each individual, and the way to know how much seasoning is needed is to seek God’s wisdom. Let Him—His grace—provide the words and the way we present those words to whoever we might be talking to.
God’s love is His salt; it seasons every recipe to perfection; use as needed.
