The Key is Our Action ~ July 27

The Key is Our Action

Not our reaction

Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”  Mark 5:36

Jesus was on his way to heal a young girl and was delayed by the crowds who followed Him, seeking healing. Some men from the house where the girl was came and told Jesus and the girl’s father they were too late; the girl was dead. Jesus told the girl’s father, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” He tells us the same thing today when troubles come our way.

Unfortunately, when trouble knocks on our door, too many times our first reaction is fear. We react to trouble with questions such as, “How can I overcome this situation”, instead of thoughts like, “It’s going to be fun watching God handle this one!” But I think it’s okay to have that initial, fearful reaction. Okay, that is, if you immediately go to the how’s-God-going-to-handle-this action. We’re only human after all, and we’re going to react first and act second. The key is the action, not the reaction.

And the real key—the thing that matters most—to how we handle the challenges life sets before us, is faith. When our love for God is strong, He will instill a faith in us that will calm our fears. And He will instill hope in us that will drive away our doubts, and we will just believe.
