They’re Not Really Ours ~ August 7

They’re Not Really Ours

They’re His

It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us. 2 John 1:4

Any believer who has children can attest to the joy they experience when their child accepts Christ as his or her Savior and sets out to live a good and righteous life. Those same parents can be thrown into despair when, inevitably it seems, the very same child wanders from their faith and sets out on a course of sure destruction; and if not sure destruction, a course wherein much pain will come his or her way.

When this happens, I encourage you to let them go, trusting God to protect them, and keep His light ever visible to them, as they wander into the darkness, so they will know their way back to Him, and us.

The truth of the matter is our children are not—never were, actually—ours; they belong to God. We did our part in the plan, and now—especially as they grow into adulthood—we must release them to Him, knowing they will one day walk in the truth, and find their way back home; a member of God’s family, His child… and once again… ours.
