Salt Is Good! ~ October 2

Salt Is Good!

Pour it on!

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. Matthew 5:13

Jesus comparing the disciples, and us to salt is a very apt parallel, in the sense of salt being a flavor enhancer and preservative. If we are the salt of the earth, we will enhance the lives of those around us and hopefully even preserve or save some we come in contact with.

On the other hand, if we live our lives not loving God and not allowing His love to emanate from us, we become of no use to Him or to those around us. We are no longer good for anything and may as well be thrown out and trampled by men. Which brings me to another interesting point: bad salt, when thrown out, can continue to harm things. It can sterilize the ground it is trodden into, and nothing will be able to grow there. The same can be true when a Christian falls; their legacy can cause others to fail and actually do harm to others.

We are salt shakers containing the love of God, and we need to be filled on a regular basis. Our source is God’s word, and we should stay close to the supply.
