There Are No Cheap Seats

The tickets are free!

Anyone who breaks even the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whosoever practices and teaches these commandments will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:19

My simple take on this: Love God, and do things the way He would do them. I truly believe when we get the first part of this done, the rest will fall into place. Because, when we love God, we won’t have to try and obey His commandments, and we won’t have to try and be an example to others—we will want to, and we will do it reflexively.

Jesus is not saying we will be given stations in heaven based on our accomplishments here on earth. If that were the case, most of us would be holding tickets in the nose-bleed section, and the best seats would be virtually empty. I don’t think there are any bad seats in heaven, and there are no levels based on worthiness. You’re either in, or you’re out.

But the key to it all of it—if I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times—is to love God. If we do that one thing, we will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
