Like Buttah

Life is like butter; it just seems to disappear, and even though it’s still good, we often wonder what it’s all about.

Like Buttah

I was merely making a comment

About getting older, and wiser

Wondering why it had to be that way

Wondering why we couldn’t understand

When we were young

And life was spread before us

But, I knew the why; the answer

For it was in the question itself

The wondering was the problem spread

Spread like butter on hot toast

I'm meeeeelllltiiinng

I’m meeeeelllltiiinng

Melting into the pores of the bread

Filling them with flavor

Such is life and the living of it

The things we do fill us

Making us more than we were

And as we realize who, or what, we are

It all becomes so clear

In the end… we’re all toast

Sharing this in response to Anna’s prompt, Meeting the Bar: Wild Beasts, over at dVerse Poets Pub. I don’t think it’s even close to what she’s looking for, but I thought this one was worth throwing out there. If she throws it back, I’ll try harder next time!

Very thought provoking . . . and FUNNY!!

  2. That ending, we are all toast ~ Really enjoyed this bite Charles ~

    Hope you are well ~

    • Doing just fine, thank you! Finally getting caught up from the move and able to get back into the game! Thanks for the comment! I’m glad you enjoyed this little slice of life!

  3. the things we do filling us making us more…yeah…and those we rub up against like that butter…fill in our cracks, making us more as well…

    • I contend who we are is determined by the paths we’ve traversed and who we’ve encountered along the journey.
      Thanks, Brian!

  4. I really enjoyed this. I’ve always wondered why I couldn’t play until I was 40, and then get a job. But I’m retired at 62, feeling the butter, and–with some right living–won’t be toast for 30 or 40 years.

    • I agree! But, er, we will be toast eventually. If I have any advance warning, I plan to go out covered with cherry jam. 🙂
Thanks for the visit and comment, Susan!

  7. Well ain’t that the truth! Inventive way to put it! 🙂

    • I’m an inventive kinda guy, ya know! One of my favorite inventions is peanut butter and cherry jam on grilled jalapeno cheese bread (buttered of course). YUM!
      Thanks for stopping by, Dianne!

I guessed the end, and you didn’t disappoint. Well done.

  10. I really enjoyed this! I often wonder the same … if I knew then what I know now, would it have made a difference? Smiles 🙂

    • I think that’s a trick question! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate the read and comment!

  11. Where you been Texas boy – I haven’t been by to gaze at your marbles in a while?! This made me laugh. I love toast – only appropriate that it should name my demise. Very clever stuff. Hope you’re doing well, sir.

    • We been movin! Still in Texas, but in a place more suited to my lifestyle. Redneck gated community (don’t ask) 50 acre pond in my backyard, and a golf course that goes all around said pond and several others.
We’re doin great! Appreciate the visit and comment!

  12. Of course I won’t throw it back, who doesn’t love hot, buttered toast :). Thanks so much for joining us.
