Shoot For the Moon! ~ December 11

Shoot For the Moon!

If you miss, you’ll land pretty high anyway!

We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. Colossians 1:28

Too often, “perfect” is a word that can discourage us and cause us to fall away from God, rather than cause us to continue to grow closer to Him. The simple fact is, we cannot be perfect; we can only be as good as our relationship with God is.

I compare it to sports; to be good at any sport, we must practice, and the more we practice a certain move or skill, the easier it is to do, and the better we are at doing it. If you throw a baseball at a target two hundred times a day for ten years, you will most likely be able to hit the target every time.

The same is true regarding our relationship with God; if, for instance, we read Psalm 91 two hundred times a day, we will have it so ingrained in our thoughts, it will be a part of our thinking. When the word and promises of God become a part of our natural thought process, we will be one with Him.

I doubt I’ll ever be perfect, but I’ll be the best I can be. I heard a saying once that stuck with me: “Shoot for the moon. If you don’t make it, you’ll land pretty high anyway.”
