Giving Up Is Not Being Patient
It’s giving up!
But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. Romans 8:25
As I said yesterday, I am not a patient guy. I work at it, but it doesn’t come easily to me, and I often confuse “giving up” with patience. Philippians 4:11 says we should be content in the state we are in, so when a dream seems to be eluding me, I tend to say, “Oh well, I tried,” and give up. I might continue to work toward the dream, but do so with the attitude, if it happens great, if it doesn’t, no big deal. I also like to throw in, God is in control; if He wants it to happen, it will happen.
I should have patience like dormant grass. While it’s cold, the grass expends only enough energy to sustain itself while it waits for spring when warm temperatures and rain will cause it to turn its beautiful green and grow. The grass is patient, knowing its time is coming.
I tend to do the same thing, but without confidence or hope. In essence, I am being patient and waiting on God, but my hope is weak.
We should continue seeking God, waiting patiently for Him to do the good things He’s promised He will do. Never stop hoping for the very best, because that’s what He said He would provide for those whose hope is in Him.
I’m cool with that.
