Happy New Year!
May it be glorious and joyful!
Being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. Colossians 1:11-12
There it is! “and joyfully giving thanks to the father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.” We did nothing to earn our salvation, and need do nothing to keep it. God qualified us when He gave His son to die for us on the cross, and nothing we do will cause Him to take away our inheritance. He is the source and the reason of our endurance and patience, and we should joyfully thank Him each and every day.
I often notice my fellow golfers—and myself—committing an error which typically brings about dire results; we try to lift the ball. A golf club is designed to lift the ball, and when we try to help it by attempting to scoop the ball we actually prevent the club from operating the way it’s meant to.
We do the same thing with regard to serving God when we try to do things through our own strength instead of according to God’s glorious might. We humans are funny that way; we think God needs our help, and that’s just not the way it works!
Thank you for being a part of my 2013, and I hope you have a glorious and joyful 2014!
