I’ve long held the opinion that the key to peace is to not want anything—to be content—but I’m thinking that theory doesn’t apply to spiritual things, because we should desire peace, and all good things God has for us. We must focus on God and His goodness, praising Him and thanking Him for them. When we set our sights on what is true, honest, and just, there we will find God, and when our desire is to gain the pure, and lovely things of God, He will deliver them to us, and in them we will find peace.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8
Some mornings—maybe most mornings—I wake up with a song playing in my head, and these days, more often than not, it’s a spiritual song. This morning it was the old hymn, I Surrender All. Nothing wrong with that; it beats the heck out of the theme from the Beverly Hillbillies!
