I Shall Not Want
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23:1
Several years ago, I heard someone say, “The key to complete happiness and peace is to not want anything.” I thought it was brilliant, and still think it is absolutely true. Unfortunately, the “world” would have us think we are brain dead if we are not actively coveting everything it has to offer.
That’s not to say we should not enjoy the things of this earth, but more to say we should not make them the center of our existence. God provides us with all good things, and He wants us to enjoy the blessings He bestows on us, but He wants us to realize He is the source of them.
Over the last few years, I’ve noticed it’s when I cease to want things and chase after them that God delivers them to me. That sounds silly, I know, but I’m telling you, it works. My faith has grown stronger on almost a daily basis these last several years, and the blessings are too many to count. It’s crazy, but the less I want, the more I seem to have.
When our focus is on God and how incredible His love for us is, we cannot outrun, nor can we contain, the blessings He heaps upon us.
I encourage you this year to start each day giving thanks to God for your blessings.
