Walk Softly ~ January 8

Walk Softly

And carry a big stick

He that has knowledge spares his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. Proverbs 17:27

Let me explain: your rod and your staff they comfort me. Psalms 23:4

God’s word is His rod and His promises and protections are His staff, and by faith in Him, we place ourselves under His watchful, loving care; this—God’s Holy Word—is the big stick we should carry with us as we share the message of eternal salvation with a turbulent, lost world.

And, though some will disagree, we need not go into the world shouting Bible verses and demanding others hear what we have to say. Not to say that type of evangelism isn’t sometimes necessary; some people need to be scared straight, so to speak. But, the fire and brimstone message is not one I care to employ. I say, walk softly and bring the big gun; God’s message of grace.

The fire-and-brimstone message is, “Be righteous, or you will burn in hell!” The message of grace is, “Believe Jesus died to take all your sins upon Himself, He will make you righteous, and you will have eternal life with Him.”

Too simple? Well, in case you missed it, I’m a very simple guy!
