We Can All Get Along~ January 9

We Can All Get Along

But we don’t have to agree

Let him turn away from evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and pursue it. 1Peter 3:11

We can do our best to be at peace with others, but that doesn’t mean we have to agree with everyone, or approve of what they do. Too often these days, we are expected to not only tolerate the evil things of this world, but accept them as being right, simply because others think they’re right. We can accept that others have freedom of choice to do as they wish, but we don’t have to concede that what they do is acceptable.

On the other hand, we shouldn’t require another to believe and act as we do, in order to be at peace with them. It is possible to love someone we disagree with, without approving of what they do. Pursuing peace is not a matter of negotiating our beliefs, but rather a matter of accepting the fact some things are best left to God.

God loves us unconditionally, and when we accept His love, we will be able to love others unconditionally. God doesn’t approve of everything we’ve done, but He loves us anyway. We can do the same for those we don’t necessarily agree with.

The fact is, 1Peter 3:11 isn’t suggesting we turn away from evil persons and the things they do; it’s suggesting we turn away from the evil things we ourselves do.

Love one another!

  1. I love the part about not negotiating beliefs in this post. You’ve made some excellent points throughout. To that end, I’d like to invite you to a new Bible verse reflection blog party I started this week. I’m sure your insights will be well received and appreciated. Here is the link:
