The Best Job I Ever Had ~ January 18

The Best Job I Ever Had

Was the hardest job I ever had

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. Colossians 3:23

I’ve worked in several different fields. I’ve worked various farm jobs, managed restaurants, logged in the mountains of western Washington, and spent the larger portion of my life working in the construction industry, about thirty years of that as a supervisor. Looking back, I’d have to say the job I enjoyed most was logging.

It was hard work, but at the end of each day, I felt like I’d earned my pay. I loved it. I loved battling the elements and terrain of the rugged northwest, and being able to say I’d won (well, maybe it was a draw}. I loved being a part of a group of men—most of them much younger than me at the time—who took great pride in what they were doing for a living.

I wonder how much more rewarding that job—any of my jobs—would’ve been if I’d done my work as unto the Lord.

If you have a job doing something you love, be thankful. If you have a job you aren’t especially happy with, try doing it as though each thing you do is for God. I’m betting it will change your attitude toward your job.
