I Got A Peaceful Easy Feeling
And the greenest lawn in town
Let your conduct be without covetousness; and be content with such things as you have: for he has said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you. Hebrews 13:5
Many of us tend to always think the grass is greener in the neighbor’s yard. Well, I can tell you of a time when I didn’t have to worry about that, and it was NOT fun!
I’d bought a new house, and the yard was bare. I planted grass and as it grew, I fertilized… then fertilized… then fertilized some more. When the grass matured and it was time to cut it, I regretted that second and third fertilizing. The lawn was definitely the most beautiful, green, and luscious lawn in the neighborhood, but it was so thick I could hardly mow it.
Bigger, shinier, greener, is not always better. Sometimes the cost (I’m not necessarily talking about dollars) of the things we covet are more than we can afford. Sure, I had the best lawn in the neighborhood, but it cost me a lot of sweat!
It seems to me being content is the same as being at peace. If we can focus on the fact God will never leave us nor forsake us, we will be able to say, “I got a peaceful easy feeling, and I know He won’t let me down. ‘Cause I’m already standing… on the greenest lawn in town.”
