If You Ride the Bullet
You’re gonna get burned
For thus says the LORD; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace. Jeremiah 30:5
Life is like riding a bullet; speed and friction cause heat, and we know we’re gonna get burned, but we hang on for dear life, hoping the scars will heal and trying to find something to believe in. That, my friends, is a description of life without Jesus, and I don’t think I have to point out there was no mention of hope or peace in it.
I’ve ridden the rollercoaster of life in the fast lane, and though it was indeed thrilling at times, it was not well maintained and came off the tracks way too often. I can’t count the times I’ve found myself laying off to the side—sometimes hurt, sometimes not—wondering how I survived the crash. I didn’t have the T-shirt, but I wore the motto, “No Fear”, like a badge of honor.
Life with Jesus is also life without fear, and if we focus on Him, there’s nothing to be afraid of. There will be ups and downs, and hairpin turns, but as long as we’re riding with Him, we’ll be safe from harm.
Remember before seatbelts, when we’d ride in the car, sitting (sometimes standing) in the front seat beside Mom? If she had to make a sudden stop, she’d throw her right arm across us to keep us from getting hurt. Well, Jesus has His arm across us all the time. That is, of course, if we’ve made the choice to let Him do the driving.
