The Devil Couldn’t Hold Him
And he can’t have him back!
Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped. Psalms 123:7
Sometimes we get lucky, or we’re blessed, or maybe the best way to say it is, we get chosen. God has a plan, and when He chooses us, we are His, and I believe that settles it. I know people—I’m one of them—who have lived ungodly lives, then been taken back into God’s fold to do the things He planned for them to do.
A friend of mine is a good example, and he will be the first to tell you he went so far into the darkness he thought he’d never see the light again. But he did, and his escape was nothing short of a miracle. A few years ago, after he’d been brought back into the light and was doing the things God had planned for him to do, he confessed that he still struggled with the desires and addictions of his past. I assured him this was not unique, and that no matter how far removed from our sordid past we might go, the old things and Satan would continue the fight to get us back.
My contention is that he, me, and you, will never go back if we continue to focus on God. I told my friend, “The devil couldn’t hold you, and he can’t have you back.” I believe that to be true about him and all God’s children. Once God has claimed us as His, it’s a done deal!
