What’s All the Noise About?
It’s just another day!
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 1Corinthians 13:1
I don’t care much for Valentine’s Day. To me it’s kind of like insurance; we don’t celebrate love on February fourteenth because we want to, but, rather, because we’re told we have to. They say if we don’t buy gifts and cards for the special person in our life on this special day, we don’t love them. (Not to mention, the world economy would probably crumble if the spending of billions of dollars on flowers, candy, jewelry, etcetera, was to suddenly stop.)
The problem is we have once again been convinced we have to do something we don’t have to do. Truth be known, I’m probably not alone in wishing this “holiday” had never been invented. And, an invention is exactly what it is!
All this day is, is a day to bang the gong and clang the symbols, which is what a large percentage of the participants are doing. Some are certainly sincere in their love for their significant other, but even those who are sincere in their love are only buying gifts because it’s the “thing to do”.
Every day should be Valentine’s Day, and the gift we should give to the one we hold dearest is love. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!
